SS1 Dining Chair

Inspired by the history of Scandinavian furniture craft with a modern design aesthetic, this dining chair represents my exploration of the materials and a human-centered design approach.

Design

While travelling throughout Scandinavia, I collected measurements of the chairs I sat in. I used these measurements to design a chair that was beautiful and comfortable.

Inspired by the look and comfort of the hand woven seats of famous Scandinavian Furniture designers, Borge Morgeson and Hans Wegner, I designed my own pattern of weave for SS1. I used Danish paper cord wrapped around the seat frame to provide comfort and visual lightness to my chair.

I built the prototype out of Danish maple while studying Scandinavian Furniture Design in Copenhagen, Denmark.
